After a cancer scare and subsequent hysterectomy, I had some pain and weakness in my right hip and leg. The surgeon told me it was some residual ‘nerve damage’ that sometimes happens, and that it would dissipate on its own….usually within a year. “just power through it”, she said. So, I kept up my dance, tennis, and aerobic dance classes. Within about 3 months, I had to stop everything…it was just too painful.
The pain manifested itself as pain in my feet, knees, hips and back. I also had severe weakness in my right leg. So much so that I found myself dragging my right leg slightly, and subsequently fell down some stairs and severely sprained my ankle, ending up in a splint.
My primary care physician referred me to a podiatrist, orthopedic gate specialist, chiropractor, then neurologist. I had X-rays and an MRI. All negative. They all wanted to medicate me, but each time I chose physical therapy over drugs.
I saw 5 different physical therapists over 5 years. I did all the exercises as instructed. I feel like I got a little better each time, but still not as good as ‘pre-surgery’. Any activity, even standing or walking, caused severe hip pain. Last year, after a 4th of July party, I was so miserable, I couldn’t sleep . The last therapist told me she couldn’t help me any more, and I should try yoga. So I did.
Yoga helped immediately. But after almost 2 years, I realized that it helped me to manage my pain, but did not cure it. I was becoming depressed. I couldn’t even walk my dog without pain in my hips! One day after class, I was complaining to a fellow yogi and she suggested I go see carter Peckham at north end physical therapy.
I was determined to get better, so I made an appointment with carter.
After our initial consultation, carter saw that my hips were not level (I’d heard that before!) . She then proceeded to manipulate my hips and showed me some stretches to do. As I got up off the table, I realized I did not have any pain…at all! She had corrected the tilt in my pelvis in a different way …very effectively! Over the course of the next 2 weeks, I was amazed at what I was doing….walking all over our 9 acres, driving my tractor, wading through our creek, mowing the fields, weed eating, climbing up and down a ladder, staining and cleaning the house. All without pain!!! For the first time in 5 years!
Carter saw and adjusted something in my pelvis that all the other professionals had not…and, believe it or not, she cured me with ONE visit. I have my life back now, thanks to Carter. I am doing everything…and more….that I was doing 5 years ago before I had surgery….all without pain. I would recommend north end physical therapy to EVERYONE.
Thank you, Carter!
I just wanted to say thank you. I feel like after this past year of being in pain and not understanding why you are the first person who actually understands and took the time to listen to my symptoms and took them seriously.
I came home last night and told my husband everything and he just couldn’t believe the medical providers I was trying to explain this to couldn’t figure out a way to help me. I know I am in good hands with you and will be able to fix this. I am really appreciative of you because feeling like this all the time has really interfered with my life.
I Woke up this morning with a pretty bad migraine again but at least I know today that there is an end to feeling like this. You are wonderful and I will be looking for Referal opportunities for you!
The quality of attention and care is so much different than anything I have experienced and I am so thankful I met you!
Doing my stretches and getting to work and will be going to Marlene’s this weekend for all my natural remedies!
You know from my feedback when I was having sessions with you, I truly thought you were a miracle worker. I had resisted going to the doctor in fear the MOST invasive procedures would be recommended as opposed to the least. When leaving our appointments, I always felt such physical relief, it surprised me. In the past, I had a chiropractor that had the same gift…I also appreciated the exercises you gave, as they too gave relief, so I could continue the healing work you had started on my own!
With all that appreciation said. I am walking down a stone embedded trail on Kauaii (having walked up) and I am experiencing no pain, no discomfort and I think I need to tell Carter. Also, this week-end, I was on the beach for long walks with my family and had no discomfort, pain or limitation of any kind. I can now rejoin my hiking group. Yeah! I know you know, but perhaps you have no idea what it is like to loose your mobility from pain and then to regain the gift. I sing your praises whenever I can.
In deep appreciation,
After all of this time, by back and I are very thankful for all the hard work you put into getting my back into the “pain-free” zone, and making sure I was as functional as possible. I am still doing the exercises…in the end, however, it was your energy, intuition and smarts that really made my back work right again.
I’m grateful for your experience and for your wisdom. Every sessnion, I learn from you and appreciate your compassion, respect and sense of integrity. Thank you for sharing your gifts,
I don’t know how to thank you for giving me my body back. You truly worked miracles. When my chiropractor said she was sending me to PT, I inwardly rolled my eyes thinking “here we go again”. Now I know where to go for help! I’ll definitely see you when the left knee gets replaced.
